Trim Levels (Exterior)

The 2023 Ford Expedition is a truck-based SUV offered in six trim levels: XL, SLT, Timberline, Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum. The upper five trim levels are also available with a larger body, which Ford refers to as the Expedition Max. It has a larger cargo area and is longer than the standard Expedition. With the XL trim, standard equipment includes 18-inch wheels, black running boards, LED headlights, roof-rack side rails, and fog lights. The Timberline trim is designed for off-roading, featuring a heavy-duty radiator, dual exhaust, upgraded trim, and off-road-tuned shock absorbers. With the Limited trim, premium features like power-folding side mirrors, a hands-free liftgate, and rain-sensing wipers come standard. The King Ranch trim has Western-themed styling accents, while the top Platinum trim includes upgraded accents and satin aluminum trim.

Engine (Power)

The Expedition's standard engine is a 3.5-liter turbocharged V-6 that produces 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. It pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. Four-wheel drive is available as an option on most trims. The Platinum trim has a specially tuned version of the V-6 engine, putting out 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. A further upgraded version of the engine is standard on the Timberline trim. It makes 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. The Stealth Performance package, available on other trim levels, includes this engine.

Performance

Despite its large size, the 2023 Expedition is faster than most models in its segment. In speed testing, it zoomed from zero to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds. This SUV also boasts lightweight steering and a responsive brake system. A class-IV trailer hitch receiver comes standard, making towing easier. You can also add an optional package to get trailer backup assist, an upgraded radiator, a trailer brake controller, and 3.73 rear-axle gearing.

Interior

Within the spacious cabin, standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a power-adjustable driver's seat. Standard tech features include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, a six-speaker sound system, a 12-inch touchscreen, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot. Comfort options offered on the higher trims include tri-zone climate control, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, leather upholstery, and massaging functionality. You can also get tech features like wireless device charging, a 15.5-inch touchscreen, and an upgraded audio system.

Safety Features

Ford Co-Pilot360 comes standard on all trim levels of the Expedition. This suite bundles active driver aids like blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking. Ford also offers a few additional options, such as front parking sensors, parking assist, and a surround-view camera system. The BlueCruise semi-autonomous driving system comes standard on the top trim.
