The latest generation of the RAM 1500 debuted in 2019. It's wider than its predecessor but weighs about 200 pounds less. It has a black or chrome grille with prominent RAM lettering in the center, and the hood looks less rounded than previous models. You can choose from eight trim levels: Limited, Limited Longhorn, Laramie, Rebel, Big Horn, Tradesman, TRX, and Tradesman HFE. This truck has a large, sculpted hood, rectangular headlights, sculpted sides, 18-inch wheels, all-season tires, tow hooks, and puddle lights. It also offers a skid plate, manually folding heated side mirrors, and active grille shutters.

Two cab and three bed sizes are available. Options include power- or manually-folding tow mirrors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, power-folding auto-dimming side mirrors with turn signals and memory settings, fog lights, and power running boards. You can choose automatic high beams, additional storage for the truck bed, 20- or 22-inch wheels, a power-sliding rear window, a multifunction tailgate that can open like a pair of doors, and cargo tie-down hooks.

The RAM 1500 comes with many engine options. The Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 creates 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 generates 260 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. The supercharged HEMI 6.2-liter V-8 provides 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, and a 5.7-liter version that offers 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque is available as well. An eight-speed automatic transmission comes with all engine options.

This truck is fun to drive and maneuverable for its size. It has excellent acceleration and a smooth, comfortable ride. The RAM 1500 can tow up to 12,750 pounds and carry up to 2,300 pounds. It can race to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds, and gets solid fuel economy at 20 mpg in urban regions and 26 mpg on the open road. Electronic stability control, power steering, and trailer sway control are standard, and you can add a snow plow kit and a heavy-duty engine oil cooler. The optional independent air suspension lets you make adjustments to ride height.

With most RAM 1500 models, you'll get a 5-inch touchscreen, keyless entry, SiriusXM satellite radio, cruise controls on the steering wheel, folding rear seats, voice recognition, and a six-speaker audio system. Additional options include navigation, a head-up display, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, an 8.4- or a 12-inch touchscreen, heated and cooled eight-way power front seats, and a 7-inch driver information display. A heated steering wheel, a folding front passenger seat, dual-zone climate control, and a universal garage door opener are available as well.

Safety features include a rearview camera, a security system with an engine immobilizer, and hill start assistance. You can add forward collision warning, trailer reverse steering control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-path alert.
