Trim Levels (Exterior)

Back in 2017, the Toyota Camry came in four different trim levels: LE, SE, XSE, and XLE. Starting in 2018, a new base trim level was added to this lineup, the L. The new entry-level model took on most of the features of the 2017 base trim, making the LE just another step higher with upgraded features on the way to the top-tier models. In 2019, the Camry got updated paint-color options and a standard shark-fin antenna.

Engine (Power)

Whether you're looking at a 2017, 2018, or 2019 Camry, all trims are going to come standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, with a 3.5-liter V-6 available as an upgrade for the XLE and XSE. The real differentiation comes in the amount of horsepower and torque that these engines get. In 2017, the four-cylinder engine got 178 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque, but starting in 2018, that same engine began boasting 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Similarly, the V-6 engine went from getting 268 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque in 2017 to 301 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque in 2018 and 2019.
Aside from the changes in the engine's capabilities, the standard transmission has changed from being a six-speed in 2017 to an eight-speed automatic in 2019.

Performance

The 2017 Camry SE comes with paddle shifters and a sport-tuned suspension. In 2018 and 2019, a revised steering calibration was also added to this sport-focused trim level. The Camry has also seen some changes to its fuel economy. A 2017 model equipped with the four-cylinder engine gets 24 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, while both a 2018 and a 2019 Camry outfitted with the same engine get 29 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on the highway.

Interior

The Toyota Camry has had some pretty impressive improvements to its interior amenities in recent years. Starting in 2017, an enhanced multimedia system became a standard feature in the XLE and XSE. In 2019, Apple CarPlay compatibility, Amazon Alexa interfacing, and a Wi-Fi hotspot became standard on all models.

Safety Features

In 2017, the then-base trim level came standard with a rearview camera, heated mirrors, and automatic headlights. Starting in 2018, all models come with a suite of driver assistance features called Toyota Safety Sense. The suite includes features like automatic high beams, lane departure alerts with steering assistance, a frontal pre-collision system, and adaptive cruise control. When you purchase a 2019 Toyota Camry, you automatically get a three-year subscription to emergency and roadside assistance through Safety Connect.
