As the largest city in North East Texas, over 100,000 people call Tyler, TX home. Famous for our roses, Rose City has plenty more to offer both residents and visitors. With beautiful outdoor spaces, a vast number of popular attractions, sporting opportunities, and a great social scene, Tyler is a diverse and exciting city.

1. Outdoor Fun

In Tyler, there are plenty of opportunities to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. Visit America’s largest rose garden and stroll 14-acres filled with over 35,000 rose bushes, including 500 different varieties. The park is open from dawn till dusk, seven days a week, and admission is free. Get back to nature at Tyler State Park. Located just north of the city, visitors can explore more than 13 miles of trails through the pine forest, or swim, fish, or boat on the lake.

The beautiful Lake Tyler offers boating, water skiing, fishing, camping, hiking, and swimming. Caldwell Zoo is fun for all the family, with more than 2000 animals calling it home. See elephants, lions, monkeys, meerkats, flamingos, giraffes, and much more. Play a round of golf at one of the many local golf courses. Or, take advantage of the beautiful city parks, with many offering exercise and sports facilities, playgrounds, splash parks, and trails for walking, jogging, and biking.

2. Arts and Culture

Tyler boasts a wealth of facilities to experience local, national, and worldwide arts and culture. The Cowan Centre presents a range of touring performances such as Tony Award-winning Broadway musicals, dance productions, lectures, theatrical performances, and much more. Liberty Hall, located downtown, offers live music, comedy, and classic films. The Tyler Museum of Art offers a tranquil space to enjoy traveling exhibitions and the museum’s impressive permanent art collection. The downtown Gallery Main Street offers rotating exhibits and is free to the public six days per week.

For those who want a more hands-on experience, Pinot’s Palette offers a range of art classes, and guests can bring their own food and drink. The East Texas Symphonie Orchestra regularly performs around town as well as hosting masterclasses, lectures, and casual gatherings. Tyler Civic Theatre is a non-profit community playhouse. They present a variety of shows and hold auditions regularly for those wanting to get involved.

3. Food and Drink

Tyler has a thriving food and drinks scene with a plethora of unique dining opportunities. Tyler has it all, with restaurants serving homestyle local flavors, Mexican, Italian, fresh fish, and Spicy Indian. There are delicious deli’s, bakeries, breakfast spots, BBQ pits, coffee houses, brewpubs, food trucks, and French cafes.

Tyler is home to two breweries, ETX and True Vine, and plenty of bars and pubs offering a wide selection of locally produced craft beers and other beverages. Locals can taste the home soil-grown grapes in wines from Pelle Legna and Kiepersol Vineyard. Always drink responsibly and do not drink and drive.

4. Shopping

We have it all in Tyler. It’s a shoppers paradise. We have shopping centers and malls packed with big-name brands, an assortment of locally owned boutiques selling fashion, crafts, jewelry, homeware, and flowers, thrift stores, antique shops, and second-hand stores.
