While it might seem like summer has just begun, the end of summer will be here before you know it. Now is the time to plan your end-of-summer road trip before the busy fall season begins. Galveston

The city of Galveston is just a little over 200 miles from Tyler, which is about a 4-hour road trip. It’s right on the Gulf of Mexico, making it a great location for water recreation. Visit the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier for carnival rides and waterfront dining. Moody Gardens is a good destination for adventure-seekers. If history is more your thing, then you’ll definitely want to check out the 1892 Bishop’s Palace. If you decide to spend the night, you’ll find many hotels and accommodations in the area.

San Antonio

San Antonio is a little further from Tyler, being a 300-mile drive or about a 5-hour commute, so you might want to plan this road trip as a weekend getaway. The drive is worth it with shopping along the San Antonio River Walk or historical exploration at the Alamo. The San Antonio Missions National Historical Park is an educational yet entertaining tour of 18th-century life in San Antonio.
